Total Depravity

This piece came to mind during a night of contemplating the current state of the world. My heart aches as I observe our current history as a collective humanity form and take shape. The violence, paranoia, racism, corrupt leadership, terrorism, the greed, lust, the lack of love and empathy for our fellow man, and the blatant disregard of human life. The list goes on and on. From the look of things placing your faith in humanity will only constantly let you down.

What are we doing to ourselves?

How could we let this happen? (AGAIN. AND AGAIN. AND AGAIN.)

If we didn't have recorded history to look back on we probably would've destroyed ourselves a long time ago. Thanks to our sinful nature, humanity has always had a short-term memory when it comes to remembering to care for others. Our selfishness and greed makes our worldview microscopic and we are not willing to see past our own narcissism.  

But when you break it all down...
When you remove all of the things we divide ourselves with...
We are all the same species of beings sharing the same small floating blue marble in the vastness of the universe.
We all want most of the same things.
No matter how you flip it we all desire love, strong bonds, identity, comfort, and a place of belonging.
The thought of life excites and draws us in, while the stench of death nauseates and repels us.
So why are our feet so quick to shed the blood of our human brothers and sisters??

We are a fallen race that allows evil and greed to influence our words and actions...and unfortunately no one is completely immune.

Perhaps it is too much to expect a seemingly intelligent race of beings to be able to exist together without killing each other. I am a young black man. I'm a christian who believes in Jesus Christ, and I urge others to as well. Those few facts about myself alone could attract hate and physical harm. But if you don't believe, you are not my enemy. My job is simply to represent Him well, love others and to tell you about Him.

Some of you probably aren't reading anymore because of what I just said.... But that's part of our problem....

We as a humanity are seemingly losing the ability to communicate and empathize sensibly and humbly with each other so instead we've turned to immediate fear, violence, hate, and persecution. Whether it's people of other religions, ethnicity, upbringing, sexual orientation whatever the difference... Our response should never be hate.

It has been stated multiple times that we are in the last days. (I encourage you to read Revelation for more details!)
The Bible states in 2 Timothy 3:1-5 that "...There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God--having a form of godliness but denying its power..."
These attributes have already existed and persisted throughout history... But it seems to be getting worse. And though I'm a Believer I'm not too quick to throw my race into the fire just yet. However if this is God's will then it must come to pass, through I do wish there was another way. I just pray that enough of us can snap out of it, repent, and make some kind of progress towards understanding and caring for one another before it's too late.
